Save the Date! Pick-Up Student Belongings & BOOK RETURN

The Pick-Up time for OUR class for student belongings is on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 from 1-2pm. (I will have the kids' books, "Front End" that I ordered them in with their belongings.) This is the ONLY time that you will be able to pick up student items per Mr. LeClaire. If you cannot pick up in this timeframe, please find someone that can pick it up for you. Mr. LeClaire said that any items left after our scheduled hour will go into storage in the basement till next school year. Pick up for our class will be on 16th Street. You can pull-up, text me at 906.399.6536, pull to the door (near the playground) and I will carry out your bag. Please write your child's name on a sign to hold in the window so I know which bag is yours. (Unless, of course, your child is visible in the vehicle. )
Don't forget to bring any BOOK RETURNS of library books and/or class reading books.

Message from Mr. LeClaire

Parents/Guardians,
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we've transitioned to virtual learning. We are here to support you and want you to know that you can reach out to us if there is anything you need. We are required by the state to track the participation of our students with online instruction. At least once a week, we are expected to communicate with all families or show proof of student participation either by text, e-mail, phone call, Class Dojo/Remind messaging, student log in on Pearson, student submission of responses to stories or journaling, etc. If we haven't received communication with you or haven't seen participation by your student, we will be reaching out to you at the end of each week to check in and see if there is anything we can do to support you!
Thanks,
Craig LeClaire

STUDENT PROGRESS

Hello, families!

I have begun putting student progress marks into Powerschool, so please be checking on how your child is progressing through the lessons in weeks 1 and 2.  If your child is just getting his or her Chromebook, don't worry, just have them begin working through week 1 - especially the math lessons and silent reading.

In Powerschool, you should be looking for checkmarks, a notation that means, "collected."  That means that I have seen your child's work and he or she has completed it for that week.  In this period of online learning, we are keeping track of progress, without letter grades.  As of right now, I have 11 students that have completed everything for week 1 - way to go!  However, there are 5 more students that have wifi and a computer that have made little to no progress.  Parents, please be checking with your child DAILY to see what is on their schedule for the day.  Have your child show you their Google Classroom.  Once a student has FINISHED a lesson, the icon on the left (it looks like a dot with a clipboard) will be grey, not a bold (blue, I think) color.  If it is blue, then you know that they have not completed the lesson.

Again, if you have any questions, let me know.  Here is how you can get hold of me:
     * Office hours on Google Meet - 10-11am M-F (I post the link daily);
     * Message me on Facebook (this is the quickest way to an answer);
     * Email me at lbouche@eskymos.com;
     * Check out my blog for updated info: lbouche.blogspot.com;
     * Call or text at 906.399.**** (text is best/fastest at this number);
     * Message me on the Classtag app.
EVERY message that I send out, I send in multiple ways to be sure that everyone gets it.

Have a great Tuesday!

UPDATE 4.16.20

Notes from today's (virtual) staff meeting:
* The EUE is handing out some Chromebooks today - if you have heard from them, you are getting one today. If you have NOT heard from them, you will get yours next week.
* Why did you not get your Chromebook today? If you are getting a hotspot, you will get yours next week. If you signed up late, you will get yours next week.
* Multiple student homes - EVERY family will get ONE chromebook. If they have more Chromebooks, they will try to get families a 2nd Chromebook - especially to those that have 4 or more kids at home that need to work on it.
When will students get their stuff? (Items in their desks, etc.) It looks like we are waiting for a change to the stay-at-home order. Probably around the first week of May. Teachers will pack everything up and then we will have pick up days/times for families.
Just a reminder - food pick up is EVERY TUESDAY from 3-6pm at EHS in the West (back) parking lot.

Learn to Type - for REAL!

Are your kids slow typers? Try this free typing website! I have heard rave reviews - it is free and parents can help students sign up - you don't have to do it through a class. :)

April 6th, 2020

Fourth graders will most likely receive their chrome books the week of April 20. Please don't worry. I will post all lessons in a numbered format in our Google Classroom so that students that get started a little bit later will be able to start with lessons that are numbered "1." I will record any lessons that I have done or will do online so that the information will be there for you after the "live" lesson. Please do not worry about getting behind.
